Christus Victor Lutheran Church
Baltimore, MD - Organ rebuilt by Lewis & Hitchcock, 2009
Christus Victor Lutheran Church has a Wicks organ. The pipe cabinet is on the left side, and the console is on the right side.
The console had no combination action, and the only accessory was the Crescendo shoe, which adds stops in volume order. The desire was to add a combination action, and to reunify the five ranks to make a more flexible specification.
The rebuilt console now has a full complement of pistons and toe studs.
The original stoptabs operated leaf contacts that often would either not make contact or pop out of position.
Now the stoptabs have electro-magnetic operation by the new multiplex system, and move quickly and quietly into position when operated by the pistons.
The original relay system was a very early version of diode matrix solid-state, with two panels back to back inside the organ case. This system had many problems, and entire ranks often would not be playable.
The new multiplex relay occupies less space, as it contains much less mechanism.
The Director of Music of Christus Victor Church is Dr. Joseph Birdwell, who worked closely with us to plan the work.
